Freedom of Information

It is the policy of the board of trustees of the Fox Lake Fire Protection District to permit access to public records in compliance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. The district does acknowledge and respect exemptions built into the act to safeguard sensitive private information in accordance with the exemptions of the act.

Description of District

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District is predominately located in Lake County, IL, with small portions in McHenry County, IL. It is a district organized in accordance with the Illinois Fire Protection District Act and provides fire suppression and emergency medical services to the populus of the district. Revenue streams for the district include taxes levied from residence of the district, ambulance transport fees, miscellaneous fees/ revenue. The headquarters and administrative offices are located at 306 Washington Street, Ingleside, IL 60041.

Operational Purpose and Budget

The operational purpose of the Fox Lake Fire Protection District is to provide professional, effective, and compassionate fire suppression, emergency medical services, public education, and public outreach to the district community. Budget information can be found on our website under “About- Board and Committees- Agenda & Minutes” where all budget information including ordinances can be obtained.

Method to Request Information

All requests should be made in person at headquarters location or through the “Contact” section of the district’s website utilizing the Contact Form. Requestors should reference the Freedom of Information Act Request form and mirror the information needed when completing the Contact Form. We will not open any attachments, information requested must be explicitly expressed.

Public Access to Records

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District will make available its public records upon request as defined by the Illinois Freedom of Information Act and any applicable laws. The district shall not provide public records or portions of public records that are protected under exemption status in the Act.

The district shall redact any information which falls under exemption protection under the act from a public document that contains nonexempt material and make the remaining public record available.

Any requestor who is denied inspection or a copy of public records may appeal the denial to the Office of the Public Access Counselor through the Illinois Attorney General, 100 West Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois. Telephone number: (312)814-3000.

Fees

Under Illinois FOIA, the first 50 pages of blackandwhite, letter or legalsized copies are provided at no charge. After the first 50 pages, the district may charge $0.15 per page. Additional fees for specific requests above and beyond what has been expressed are in accordance with standards set by the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
